1. A method for treating Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) comprising administering to a patient with CLL a single dose comprising a population of about 5×109 to about 2×1010 autologous T cells activated and expanded according to a method comprising,
(a) activating a population of T cells in vitro with an agent which stimulates a TCR/CD3 complex-associated signal in the T cells, wherein the agent is attached on a surface; and (b) stimulating a CD28 accessory molecule on the surface of the T cells in vitro with a ligand that binds the CD28 accessory molecule on the surface of the T cells, wherein the ligand is attached on the same surface as the agent; andwherein the activating and stimulating steps thereby induce proliferation of the T cells such that T cell counts are increased in the CLL patient at least one month after administration.
