摘要 399,999. Teaching the playing of card games. ELLSWORTH, F. P., 410, Central Park West, New York, U.S.A. Nov. 19,1932, No. 32745. Convention date, Nov. 19, 1931. [Class 132 (ii ).] Apparatus for teaching card games comprises a sheet with a plurality of hands of cards indicated thereon, a mask overlying the sheet, means whereby at least one of the hand indications is continuously exposed through the mask, and means carried by the mask to conceal certain of the other hand indications and operable to expose single card indications from said certain hands in the correct order of play. Sheets 13 on which are printed representations of playing cards, and other data, are removably stacked on hooks 12. The top sheet is covered by a mask 24 comprising two plates spaced apart and supported on a rod 20 which can be adjusted in brackets 16, 17 to allow different numbers of sheets to be placed beneath the mask. By unscrewing a nut 22 the rod 20 is freed to allow the mask to be swung over while the sheets 13 are changed. Various apertures are formed in the mask 13 by holes in both its plates. Initially, the bottom line of the representations 65, comprising the player's band, is seen through the " South aperture 35. A slide 31 controlled by pawls 33 is pulled down step by step to expose the sequence of bidding 64. The player then moves the mask one step along the rod 20, the movement being controlled by a pawl 62 engaging teeth 61. The player's hand is again exposed at 35 and dummy's hand becomes visible through the " North aperture 36. The player now turns a knob 47 in an anticlockwise direction, thereby rocking a shutter 40 pivoted at 41 to expose through the " West " aperture 37 the card which is supposed to be led from that position. The player then decides the card " dummy should play and turns the knob 47 a step further to reveal the card played from the " East " position through an aperture 38. He finally decides which card he would play and then closes the apertures 37, 38 and moves the mask 24 one step along the rod 20. The third line of the representations 65 is now visible through the aperture 35 and the card which should have been played can be found by noting the blank space in that line. Similarly, the card which should have been played by dummy is indicated, and the tricks which ought to have been made are shown at an aperture 39. The process is then continued. The " West " and " East cards are represented at 66 and 67 on the sheets 13 and the mask 24 is locked when the shutter 40 is out of the position in which it obscures both apertures by a detent 58 which is forced into engagement with the teeth 62 by a cam on the spindle of the knob 47.
