Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for inputting characters wherein double consonants and double support consonants can be input by one touch and occurrence of typos can be minimized as a vowel keys are converted into double consonant and double support consonant keys after vowels are input. The provided apparatus for inputting characters can receive input of Korean characters by displaying a qwerty keyboard comprising a plurality of vowel character keys displaying basic vowels, determines whether an input vowel can be combined with another vowel if the vowel is input, changes the basic vowel, displaying the whole or some of the vowel character keys, into at least one from a double consonant and a double support consonant based on the determination result, and displays at least one from the double consonant and the double support consonant. |
