The present invention relates to a variable control-type illumination sensor LED lamp for setting illumination, and a control method thereof. The LED lighting device and the control method can prevent confusion of illumination detection due to the difference of illumination in each direction by controlling the brightness of an LED light to be linearly changed in response to changes in an illumination value by using information including a light amount of the LED light, a constant voltage of a power supplied to the LED light, a constant current or any combination thereof; and installing at least one illumination sensor to individually detect the light in one direction to selectively perform a dimming control on a pertinent LED light corresponding to each direction.
