METHOD FOR REMOVING TBT ANTIFOULING PAINT AND METALS FROM UNDERWATER SEDIMENT OR DREDGED MATERIAL

The present invention relates to a method for removing metal contaminants and TBT antifouling paint contained in the water bottom sediments or spoil around a shipyard or a dry dock. The method includes the steps of: (a) supplying supplying a magnetic force to the water bottom sediments or spoil; and (b) using the magnetic force to separate the magnetically separated particle (MSP) and the remaining particles. The method can be used to remove more than 70% of the organotin compounds and 70-90% of metal compounds being the environment pollutants in the water bottom sediments or spoil at the same time to directly purify the soil on the field. The present invention can conduct such operation at a low cost. The present invention can efficiently and economically purify the contamination of the area around a dry dock of a small fishing port, which can be neglected but be a main source of the coastal pollution, by using a physical separation method using magnetic force. The method can effectively remove the organic tin compound contained in the TBT antifouling paint especially in the TBT antifouling paint and metal contaminants.
