The invention relates to an obstacle and/or derailment detection device (10) for a railway vehicle which comprises: a beam (20) intended for receiving an impact extending transversely to the railway track; at least one assembly (22) for detecting an impact, supporting the beam (20), having a spring and a unit (30) for detecting the movement of the beam (20), comprising at least one transducer; a control unit (24) suitable for collecting data from the detection unit (30) and communicating orders to a braking unit (11) of the railway vehicle. The device is characterised in that the detection unit (30) includes at least two transducers for detecting the movement of the beam (20) in at least two angularly offset directions.
