PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide peptides useful for the modulation of the biological effects of pro-angiogenic factors, in consideration that: short peptides derived from a penta span transmembrane glycoprotein have distinct effects on angiogenesis; and short peptides from prominin-1 (prom-1) bind VEGF, an endogenous pro-angiogenesis factor that is important for normal growth and development but is also involved during unwanted and aberrant vascularization such as in cancer and diabetic retinopathy.SOLUTION: Provided is an isolated prom-1 peptide derived from prominin-1 having VEGF-binding activity wherein a peptide composition of prominin-1 is described. |
