The invention furthermore relates to a method for producing the pigments and to a coating agent.

1. A pigment comprising a non-metallic substrate,
wherein the pigment has at least one barrier layer that selectively absorbs light and/or electrons and at least one photocatalytically active layer comprising titanium oxide, titanium hydroxide and/or titanium oxide hydrate, wherein the average layer thickness of the photocatalytically active layer is ≦40 nm, wherein the at least one barrier layer is arranged between the non-metallic substrate and the at least one photocatalytically active layer, wherein the barrier layer comprises metal oxide, metal hydroxide and/or metal oxide hydrate, wherein the metal is selected from the group consisting of cerium, zinc and mixtures thereof.
