PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide processes for the synthesis of methyl methacrylate which are not dependent on raw materials of fossil origin but which instead use renewable resources as raw materials.SOLUTION: There is provided a process for the manufacture of methyl methacrylate by oxidation of methacrolein to methacrylic acid and further esterification with methanol. In one example, methacrolein is obtained by a reaction or a sequence of reactions starting from biomass and synthesized by several steps from isobutanol obtained by fermentation of a plant material in the presence of yeast. |
