PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide pharmaceutical compositions, and methods of use thereof, for treating diseases associated with compromised boundary lubrication at the vaginal epithelium.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a pharmaceutical composition suitable for topical application to the vaginal surface of a patient of a preparation containing a therapeutic amount of a therapeutically effective concentration of a PRG4 protein (including, e.g., a PRG4 O-linked proteoglycan) suspended in a gel, aqueous osmotically balanced salt solution or multiphasic emulsification, or encapsulated within slow-release devices. The pharmaceutical composition further comprises a therapeutically effective concentration of one or more additional therapeutic agents, e.g., an agent that provides a vaginal benefit and/or has efficacy when administered vaginally. |
