PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image scanning device and an image scanning method capable of improving reproducibility by satisfactorily removing show-through.SOLUTION: The image scanning device comprises: a lid 20 or a backing sheet 141 as a pattern member; a sensor 13 for scanning an original while the pattern member is abutted on the original from its side opposite from its scanned side; and an image processing unit 40 which sets a threshold by using the luminance of a first transmission pattern corresponding to a first observation pattern acquired from the result of scanning and performs, on the result of scanning, a process of removing show-through from a processing target area having a luminance of the threshold or more.
