PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abrasive element or a method for forming a building element for removal of a burr of an article and reduction of surface roughness of the article.SOLUTION: An abrasive element or a building element consists essentially of glass material that is at least partially devitrified. A method of forming an abrasive element or a building element comprises the steps of: providing a plurality pieces of glass material; and subjecting the plurality of pieces of glass material to a heat treatment thereby to form a solid cast member having at least a portion comprising devitrified material.
