An ignition device equipped with a blowout determination unit (5b) that uses a prescribed period (ΔT) from the beginning of a spark discharge produced by a primary ignition circuit (3) as a determination period, and determines that a blowout has occurred when a time derivative value (ΔI2) of a secondary current exceeds a prescribed threshold value (Z) during the determination period. If a blowout occurs during the primary ignition (during full transistor ignition), a control is performed so as to implement a continuous spark discharge after the primary ignition in the next cycle. Furthermore, in this case the current value obtained by adding a prescribed current value α to the secondary current value (I2x) immediately before the blowout occurs is set as the secondary current command value. Therefore, it is possible to reliably prevent blowout in the next cycle, and thus to reliably prevent misfiring. |
