The present invention relates to a device for safely managing and controlling a duty-standby pump system made up by three or more pumps and a method for the same. According to the present invention, provided is a pump system control device comprising: a first pressure transmitter installed on a discharge line of a first pump; a second pressure transmitter installed on a discharge line of a second pump; a third pressure transmitter installed on a common discharge line in which each discharge line of the first pump, the second pump, and the third pump are combined; and a controller to find a pump from the first and second pumps, which abnormally operates using the measured value by the first, second, and third pressure transmitters when the measured value by the third pressure transmitter drops below a predetermined value during the operation of the first and second pumps.
