PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb structure 1 capable of reducing irregularities in exhaust emission control performance depending on operating conditions.SOLUTION: A honeycomb structure 1 comprises: a grid-like cell wall 11; and a plurality of cells 12 formed to be surrounded by the cell wall 1. The honeycomb structure 1 has a cell density distribution such that a cell density decreases either continuously or step by step from a central portion 10 toward an outer circumferential portion 13 in a radial direction Y. The honeycomb structure 1 includes a wavy cell wall 111 extending into a wave form in an axial direction X; and a flat cell wall 112 extending into a flat form in the axial direction X. The wavy wall 111 is present in regions in which a cell density ratio of the cell density to a maximum cell density is not more than 0.85. The cell wall 11 present near the central portion 10 relative to the presence regions of the wavy wall 111 corresponds to the flat cell wall 112. |
