Formation of Fixed Equipment Setup Families for Populating Circuit Boards

A component placement line for populating circuit boards with components includes fixed equipment including a number of component types that remain unchanged over the planning horizon. A method includes acts of determining a number of circuit board types with associated circuit boards to be populated within the planning horizon on the component placement line and assigning at least a part of the circuit board types to a fixed equipment setup family, wherein all the components for populating a circuit board of a circuit board type in the fixed equipment setup family are encompassed by the fixed equipment, and the assignment is optimized until an assignment quality exceeds a predefined metric.

1. A method for populating circuit boards by equipment on a populating line,
the equipment comprising a number of component types, sufficient to populate a setup family of circuit board types, assigned to the equipment, wherein the equipment is implementable by a number of shuttle tables attached to the populating line and comprising supplies of components of the component types, wherein different equipment is attached to the populating line during a planning horizon, wherein fixed equipment remains unchanged during the planning horizon and is configured to be used multiple times on the populating line, and wherein variant equipment is temporarily equipped on shuttle tables during the planning horizon and is stripped again after the production of circuit boards, the method comprising: acquiring a number of circuit board types with assigned circuit boards configured to be populated on the populating line within the planning horizon; assigning circuit board types to a fixed equipment setup family, wherein all components for populating a circuit board of a circuit board type of the fixed equipment setup family are comprised by the fixed equipment; optimizing the assignment by mixed integer programming until an assignment quality exceeds a predetermined amount; and populating the circuit boards on the populating line by the fixed equipment.
