The present invention relates to an electric compressor. To this end, the present invention comprises an electric compressor comprising: a sensing unit (10) for sensing the state of the refrigerant of the electric compressor; a wiring unit (20) wound in a position adjacent to the flow path (3) of a housing (2) via which the refrigerant travels inside the electric compressor; and a control unit (30) for differently controlling power applied to the wiring unit (20) according to sensing data sensed by the sensing unit (10) so as to execute control according to the state of the refrigerant. Also, the present invention relates to a method for controlling an electric compressor. To this end, the present invention comprises: a step (ST10) for aligning the position of a rotor after the power of the electric compressor is turned on; a refrigerant state determination step (ST20) for determining whether a refrigerant is liquid or gaseous after aligning the position of the rotor; a step (ST30) for applying power to the electric compressor according to the state of the refrigerant so as to preheat the refrigerant; and a step (ST40) for controlling the electric compressor to a normal operation state after the preheating.
