PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide processes for purifying guar.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to processes for purifying guar, the processes comprising combining a borate and guar in an aqueous solution and treating the aqueous solution with an organic solvent to induce precipitation of purified guar. Another embodiment of the present invention is directed to ophthalmic formulations comprising the purified guar produced by the processes described. Materials produced via the processes of the present invention are particularly useful as components of aqueous ophthalmic pharmaceuticals products.
