The present invention describes a method for electronically and physically archiving documents, having the steps of: a) generating a file by recording a digital image of the physical document using a camera; b) storing at least some of the information based on the file captured in step a) in an electronic memory; c) storing the captured physical document in a container or in one of a plurality of containers provided for the purpose of physically storing the documents to be archived; d) linking a unique container identification and/or an item of position information relating to the physical document in the container to the file generated in step a) and/or to the information stored in an electronic memory in step b), and e) storing the file generated in step a) and/or the information stored in an electronic memory in step b) with the link obtained in step d) in a database. The present invention also describes a container for carrying out the method according to the invention and a computer program associated with the method and an electronic data storage medium.
