摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a nickel hydroxide electrode which allows a rechargeable nickel-zinc battery to be markedly reduced in self-discharge and to be enhanced in reliability, and which shows markedly improved capacity retention as it is cycled.SOLUTION: In a method for manufacturing a battery positive electrode, nickel hydroxide particles for a nickel hydroxide electrode are processed with an alkali solution of a strong oxidizing agent such as sodium or potassium persulfate and the nickel hydroxide on the surface of each particle is modified by a highly-conductive cobalt compound. The method comprises the steps of: (a) producing a modified nickel hydroxide by mixing a hydroxide solution and the strong oxidizing agent with nickel hydroxide at a temperature of at least about 90°C into a mixture; (b) separating the modified nickel hydroxide from the mixture obtained in the step (a); (c) preparing an electrode mixture comprising the modified nickel hydroxide; and (d) incorporating the electrode mixture into the positive electrode.
