A metamaterial optical member (100) is provided with: a light collecting optical member (1), which has a light input surface (IN1) and a light output surface (OUT1), and which has a light collecting function; and a reflection preventing film (2) that is provided on the light output surface (OUT1) of the light collecting optical member (1). The reflection preventing film (2) has a first metamaterial structure wherein a refractive index is gradually reduced in the light travelling direction. The metamaterial optical member (100) makes it possible to take out light to the outside by being provided with the reflection preventing film (2) having the metamaterial structure.
