In a video output apparatus (100), a data generation unit (105) generates, from input video data, video thinned-out data (150) obtained by thinning out part of the video data and also generates meta data (151) for interpolating the video thinned-out data. A data output unit (106) outputs the video thinned-out data and meta data to a video reception apparatus (200) via a transmission cable (300). The data generation unit (105) changes the specification of the meta data (151) in accordance with the type of video of the video data determined by a data analysis unit (102). The data analysis unit (102) includes a video information reading unit (103) that identifies the genre of the video, or a motion detection unit (104) that detects a motion amount of the video so as to determine whether the scene thereof includes a large motion. In this way, the video reception apparatus (200) enables the viewing of a high-picture-quality video under conditions suitable for the type of the video without expansion of the transmission band. |
