437,699. Heating bearings. SMITH, C. H., and HOFFMANN MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., Chelmsford. Dec. 20, 1934, No. 36559: [Class 12 (i)] In a ball or roller bearing arrangement in which one of the members seating the bearing races becomes heated while the other member remains cool, means are provided for heating the cool member so that the bearing clearances are the same as when the members are cold. As shown, the inner race-rings 7 of ball bearings 3 are carried on the neck 1 of a steam heated roll. A steam pipe 2 extends through the neck 1. The outer race-rings 4 are seated in a housing 5 which is heated by steam supplied to a chamber 6 therein. The housing may be heated by electricity or gas. If the bearings are mounted so that the outer member normally becomes heated, then the heating means is applied to the inner member.
|
