Provided is a coil manufacturing apparatus for shaping conductor wire into a polygonal coil, wherein the apparatus is provided with: a first presser plate; a second presser plate facing the first presser plate; a plurality of corner-portion-shaping plates sandwiched between the first presser plate and the second presser plate, and situated at locations corresponding to corner portions of the polygonal coil. At least one of the corner-portion-shaping plates is a stepped plate on which is formed a stepped shape that approaches nearer towards the center of the polygonal coil, moving from the first presser plate side towards the second presser plate side. The conductor wire is bent about the corner-portion-shaping plates while catching on the stepped shape portions, thereby producing a polygonal coil.
