Wool-like artificial fibres are manufactured by treating newly spun and not yet dried artificial fibres of regenerated cellulose, which has a high affinity for substantive dyestuffs, i.e. which is capable of absorbing when dyed with Diamine Pure Blue FF at 20 DEG C. at least half of the maximum quantity of dyestuff which it is capable of absorbing when dyed at higher temperatures, and which has been freed from metallic compounds, acids or sulphur, and if desired, bleached and washed, with organic liquids capable of dissolving water until the fibres only contain the molecular water usually present in the commercial material. In an example, newly spun copper silk freed from copper and acids is introduced immediately after being centrifuged or pressed into a sufficient amount of alcohol (95 per cent). It is then advantageously centrifuged and separated from the remaining alcohol by an after-treatment with, for example, carbon tetrachloride or ether. The last used solvent is recovered by evaporation. Other liquids customary for removing water and containing, if desired, some water themselves, may be used singly or several in admixture or in succession. |
