[Class 18] In a semi-automatic box-making machine a blank shaped and folded as shown in Fig. 8 is pressed by hand against a curved portion A of a wall.G to fold corner-laps 14 inwards after which it is moved along table T to a glueing device B Fig. 1 which glues the lower surface of end wing 1b, and extension 18 by rollers 44, 56 which pick up glue from a trough 58 having electric cartridge heating units 60. The blank is then moved to station C where bevel wheels 120, 122 bend end extension 18, and thence to a scroll-device D which bends end-wing 16 parellel to panels 14, after which at station E a slide 192, Fig. 12, bends extension 18 against corner laps 14 and pressure is applied to panels 14, 16 by device F. These latter bending and pressing operations are initiated by tripping a clutch 170, Fig. 1, by contact of the blank with one arm 180 of a bell-crank lever the other arm of which engages the bent end of a rod, the rotation of which actuates the clutch to impart a single turn to a shaft 176, Fig. 4. This carries a cam 184 which rocks a lever 186 and so, through an adjustable link 190 actuates slide 192. This slide has a hardened metal working face 196 against which panels 18, 16 are consolidated by a hollow slide 210 actuated by a cam 224 contacting a roll 222 on a block sliding in slide 210 and contacting a pre-loading spring 226. The slide is returned by springs 234, Fig. 4. The blank is then reversed and the other end of the box formed similarly. This structure may also be used as a box cover. |
