An electric multi-mode power converter module comprises an AC/DC converter 30, including a first AC port 32; a DC/AC converter 40, including a second AC port 42; a DC/DC converter 50, including a DC port 52; a controller 60; and a communication bus 70 interconnecting the converters. The controller includes a hardware configuration port 62 and is configured to set the power converter state, according to the value read from the hardware configuration port. In a first state the power converter module transfers power between the first AC port and the DC port, and the second AC port is disabled. In a second state power is transferred between the DC port and the second AC port, and the first AC port is disabled. In the third state, power is transferred between the first AC port, the second AC port and the DC port. The DC port may be connected to a rechargeable battery for use in a UPS system, with the first AC port connected to the mains and the second AC port connected to a load. |
