<PICT:0439305/IV/1> In a machine for washing or scouring textile fabrics, whether in open-width or made endless, and traversed through a trough or vessel in rope form, of the kind wherein the material forms itself into loose "cuttles" or folds on the bottom of the trough, means are provided to subject the folds during the passage of the fabric through the liquid to a succession of gentle squeezing actions to cause a change of liquid in or in contact with the fabric without expelling all the liquid or crushing the fibres. As shown, the folds of material pass along the curved surface of a false bottom a<1> in the trough a and are there subjected to pressure by a member m which is actuated through links n by connecting rods o and cranks p. The member m may be perforated as shown, or may comprise a skeleton framework. It may be in two or more sections which work together or in succession, and, when in one piece, instead of being mounted as shown, it may be pivoted at its rear end and be raised or lowered at the front end. The bottom a<1> is preferably perforated and a circulating pump is provided to connect the space beneath it with the space in the trough. This circulating pump may also operate a series of jets acting on the fabric as it enters and leaves the trough. A number of troughs may be arranged in series, the liquid expressed by squeeze rollers g as it leaves the first trough being prevented from returning to the trough, but in succeeding stages it is permitted to do so. Specification 6970/13, [Class 15 (i)], is referred to. |
