<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically assign consecutive numbers to material image files and multiple-composite files even if an intermediate failed image is cancelled, in multiple-composite photography in which a serial number method is used and material images are recorded. <P>SOLUTION: A camera also saves image files which are used as materials for multiple-composition in multiple-composite photography and has a cancellation feature for material images. The camera determines a file number with a serial numbering method when operated in a normal photograph mode, and determines a file number automatically with an automatic reset method upon shift to a multiple-composite photographic mode.
