A slide fastener, commonly known as a zip or zipper, comprises first 116a and second 116b fastener tapes; a slider movably mounted on the fastener tapes along a sliding axis; an end stop 122 attached to at least one of the fastener tapes and located to limit movement of the slider along the sliding axis in a first direction, the end stop extends along the sliding axis in the first direction to a first location; and a grip portion 150 coupled to at least one of the fastener tapes and located beyond the first location in the first direction, the grip portion being configured to be grippable by a user so as to apply a force to at least one of the fastener tapes in substantially the first direction. Preferably the end stop is attached to both the first and second fastener tapes. The grip can include a handle 154 that is mechanically linked to at least one or both of the fastener tapes. The invention is aimed at disabled and/or elderly users who may have trouble when using the zip or when the zip gets stuck or becomes harder to operate. |
