[Class 132 (ii)] In a golf-club head having in its sole a cavity or depression 12, Figs. 3 and 8, which commences behind the front face 2 and extends to and through the rear face 3 of the head, the cavity or depression increases in depth and width from front to rear. The cavity is bounded by a transverse plate 9 and two diverging plates 10, 11. In modifications, these plates extend to the toe and heel of the head, or are formed as one plate that extends across the depression and conforms to its contour. The head is weighted by the provision of lead in an X-or V-shaped passage 27, Fig. 12. In Fig. 11, the invention is shown applied to a golf club head of the " iron " type.</p> |
