[Class 44] In various forms of fastening the locking movement of the fastening member proper is effected by an eccentric. Fig. 1 shows a sash fastener in which the member 26, cut away at 28 to provide a hook-like extremity adapted to engage a headed pin 31, is pivotal on a boss 27 formed on an operating lever 25 which is pivoted on a pin 24 eccentric with respect to the boss. Members 25, 26 have thumb pieces 25b, 26<b>. When unfastened, both members lie within the width of sash 20, as shown. To fasten, member 26 is rotated clockwise to engage pin 31, and lever 25 is then given further clockwise movement, so that the eccentric draws the sashes 20, 21 tightly together. In the locked position member 25 lies within the width of sash 20, and is thus inaccessible to a blade inserted between the sashes, and member 26 cannot be directly operated by an inserted blade. Fig. 6 shows a hook fastening suitable for sliding windows. A hooked catch 41 is mounted on a boss 39 formed on an operating lever 38 with thumb-piece 38b, lever 38 being pivoted on a pin 37 eccentric with respect to the boss. Members 38, 41 are kept in close contact by a spring washer, not shown. On sliding window 33 to the left, hook 41 enters a slot 44 in a plate 43. Clockwise rotation of lever 38 first raises the hook into engagement with the curled portion 45 of plate 43, and then draws the frame members 33, 34 tightly together. Fig. 11 shows a fastening in which a bolt-like member 52 is shot into engagement with, or retracted from, a keeper 54 by operation of the eccentric-carrying lever 51 A modified form suitable for furniture &c. is described, in which the eccentric is rotated by a square spindle provided with a drop-handle.
