Polarization demultiplexing for coherent optical receiver

The method involves comparing filtered signals to detect a degeneration state, and calculating a non-zero central coefficient from a selected value of a rotation angle and a selected value of ellipticity. Modified initial filter coefficients are imposed to an adaptive polarization demultiplexing filter based on the detected degeneration state, and the adaptive filter coefficients are readjusted based on an error parameter. The angle and ellipticity values are differently selected successively in response to successive detections of the degeneration state, to calculate the central coefficient. An independent claim is also included for a polarization demultiplexing device for a coherent optical receiver, comprising an adaptive polarization demultiplexing filter for filtering multiplexed signals to produce two filtered signals.
