<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner with an inrush current suppression circuit that prevents a stop of the air conditioner and burning of a current limiting resistor owing to a DC voltage undercharge. <P>SOLUTION: The air conditioner includes: a rectifying diode for rectifying an AC supply voltage into a DC voltage; a smoothing capacitor; the current limiting resistor for limiting an inrush current when initially charging the smoothing capacitor; a charging relay switchable between short-circuiting and opening connected in parallel with the current limiting resistor; a control section for controlling the switching of the charging relay between short-circuiting and opening; a load driven by inverter control of the DC voltage; and a voltage detection means for detecting the DC voltage smoothed by the smoothing capacitor.
