An insulating insert 18 is positioned around a field joint of a pipeline 10 to insulate the field joint. The insert comprises a longitudinal series of annular or part-annular filler segments 20 of insulating material, curved about a longitudinal axis, that are each joined to one or more adjacent segments 20 of the series by at least one link 22. The links 22 may be webs, rods or articulated links. The links 22 are flexible relative to the segments 20 to facilitate bending of the insert 18 along its length by enabling relative angular displacement between adjacent segments 20 of the series. The insert 16 may be overmoulded 16 or may itself overlie a sleeve (68, fig 15a) covering the field joint. |
