<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substance useful as an antitumor agent and a method for screening the same. <P>SOLUTION: The antitumor agent contains a substance inhibiting the expression or the function of TMEM176B as a major component, specifically an antisense nucleic acid to the transcript of a gene coding TMEM176B, ribozyme nucleic acid or a nucleic acid having RNAi activity, or an antibody bonded to TMEM176B.
