The device (1) i.e. stove (20), has a hot air blower (3) for heating a cooking chamber (2). A door (4) closes the cooking chamber. A latent heat accumulator is in flow connection with the cooking chamber. Air is supplied to the heat accumulator from the cooking chamber for storing heat from the cooking chamber or again delivering the stored heat to the air. The heat accumulator includes a porous bulk material a as a storage material e.g. zeolite or silica gel. The heat accumulator includes an inlet (9) and an outlet (10) opened and closed by a valve. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a cooking device.
