Provided is a modular multilevel converter including an accident current reduction structure. A modular multilevel converter according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a normal path which is connected in series to the modular multilevel converter and provides a path when a normal current flows, and a bypass which absorbs an accident current when an accident current flows. On the normal path, a switch for the current flow from AC to DC and a diode for the current flow from DC to AC are connected in parallel. On the bypass, a capacitor for storing the accident current and a diode connected in series to the capacitor is formed.
