System for radiation sterilization of medical devices

A method for medical device sterilization comprises staggering a stack of packages so that a back surface of each package partially overlaps a front surface of another of the packages. Each package contains a medical device. The stack of packages are positioned so that the front surfaces of the packages face toward a radiation source. The packages are then exposed to radiation.

1. A method of radiation sterilizing a plurality of stent-catheter assemblies, the method comprising:
positioning a plurality of packages to form a stack, each package containing a stent-catheter assembly, each stent-catheter assembly including a catheter and a stent, wherein the package at a first end of the stack and the package at a second end of the stack are referred to as end packages, and the packages between the end packages are referred to as central packages; and exposing the packages to radiation coming from a radiation source to reduce bioburden of the stent-catheter assemblies, wherein each central package covers the stent in the package adjacent to the central package with respect to the radiation coming from the radiation source, and each central package does not cover a portion of the catheter in the package adjacent to the central package with respect to the radiation coming from the radiation source.
