The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for detecting an object, which is particularly a vehicle, from a video. According to the present invention, an object to the detected can be efficiently detected with a small amount of calculation by: generating average images and standard deviation images of videos of objects as learning targets; obtaining a feature region which exhibits features of the object as a learning target; and detecting the object by using a calculated value of similarity between the average image and the video of the object to be detected as a feature vector in the feature region.
