The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for processing an audio signal to embody filtering for an input audio signal with the low amount of computation. For this, the present invention provides a method and an apparatus for processing an audio signal. The method includes a step of receiving an input audio signal, the input audio signal including sub band signals which include a first sub band group and a second sub band group; a step of receiving cut sub band filter coefficients for filtering each sub band signal of the first sub band group; a step of obtaining at least one FFT filter coefficient by performing FFT on the cut sub band filter coefficient with a predetermined block unit in a corresponding sub band; a step of performing a FFT on the subs band signal of the first sub band group based on the predetermined sub frame unit in a corresponding sub band; a step of generating a filtered sub frame by multiplying the IFF sub frame by the FFT filter coefficient; a step of performing IFFT on the filtered sub frame; and a step of generating the filtered sub band signal of the first sub band group by overlapping and adding at least one IFFT sub frame.
