This exhaust apparatus for an engine, which has an exhaust passage that guides exhaust to the outside, is provided with the following: an exhaust-heat recovery device that has an exhaust-heat recovery section in which heat is recovered from the exhaust and a cooling section in which said exhaust-heat recovery section is cooled from the outside thereof via a cooling fluid; and a cylindrical exhaust-flow control member that has an exhaust inflow section and a discharging section via which the exhaust is discharged to the upstream side of the exhaust-heat recovery section. The inside diameter of the discharging section is set so as to be smaller than the outside diameter of the exhaust-heat recovery section. The exhaust-flow control member is laid out such that the open end of the discharging section faces the middle of the upstream end face of the exhaust-heat recovery section with a prescribed distance therebetween.
