This liquid-crystal display device (10) is provided with a backlight device (12) and a liquid-crystal panel (11). The backlight device (12) is provided with LEDs (17) that contain the following: blue LED elements (40); green phosphors that each have an emission spectrum that has a peak with a peak wavelength in the 520-540 nm range and a full width at half maximum of less than 60 nm; and red phosphors that each have an emission spectrum that has a main peak with a peak wavelength in the 629-635 nm range and a full width at half maximum of less than 10 nm, a first sub-peak with a peak wavelength in the 607-614 nm range, and a second sub-peak with a peak wavelength in the 645-648 nm range. The abovementioned liquid-crystal panel (11) has a color filter (29) comprising a plurality of colored sections (29R, 29G, 29B) and utilizes the light from the backlight device (12) for display purposes. |
