The present invention relates to a method to operate an electric furnace wherein power transmission time and an entire operational time can be reduced; thereby reducing a power unit by charging a heating material to raise a temperature of a molten steel by reacting with the molten steel during operation of the electric arc furnace into the electric arc furnace at a point of time of a melt-down after charging the scraps for a final time. The present invention comprises the steps of: manufacturing molten steel by charging and melting scraps; charging a heating material composed of Fe-Si ferroalloy powder capable of providing the molten steel with a heat of reaction by oxidation at the point of time of the melt-down after charging the scraps for the final time in the step of manufacturing the molten steel; raising the temperature of the manufactured molten steel; and tapping the molten steel having the temperature thereof raised.
