Disclosed are a mesh plate type nickel-based secondary battery unit cell which is capable of securing a uniform interval between an anode plate and a cathode plate by withstanding expansion of the center part of the cathode plate due to swelling caused by charge/discharge through a mesh plate structure of the anode plate and the cathode plate, and capable of preventing short-circuit defects; and a nickel-based secondary battery stack having the same. The nickel-based secondary battery unit cell may include: a cathode plate having the mesh plate structure; an anode plate which is arranged separately from the cathode plate to face the cathode plate and has the mesh plate structure; and a separator which is provided in the space between the anode plate and the cathode plate.
