An image display apparatus capable of executing calibration of at least one of brightness and a color of a screen, the image display apparatus comprising: a light-emitting unit; a display unit configured to display an image on the screen by modulating light from the light-emitting unit; a light-emission control unit configured to control light emission of the light-emitting unit on the basis of input image data; a display control unit configured to execute display processing for displaying a plurality of images for calibration on the screen in order; an acquiring unit configured to execute, for each of the plurality of images for calibration, processing for acquiring a measurement value of light emitted from a region, of the screen, where the image for calibration is displayed; and a calibrating unit configured to execute the calibration on the basis of the measurement values of the plurality of images for calibration, wherein when a light emission state of the light-emitting unit changes during the execution of the di splay processing from a light emission state of the light-emitting unit before the execution of the display processing, the display control unit executes at least a part of the display processing again.
