PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a broadcast receiver providing an operation mode received by a mobile device, the mobile device controlling the broadcast receiver using the operation mode; a mobile device; a service providing method; and a broadcast receiver controlling method.SOLUTION: A broadcast receiver 100 includes: a display unit 110; a communication interface unit 140 to receive a first control command for controlling the movement of a pointer, to transmit information corresponding to a character input mode to a mobile device 200 when the pointer is located in a character input area on a screen displayed in the display unit 110, and to receive a second control command input through a user interface window corresponding to the character input mode from the mobile device 200; and control unit 150 locating the pointer in the character input area on a screen displayed in the display unit 110, and displaying characters in the character input area according to the received second control command.
