PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide platelet-derived growth factor compositions and methods for treating injury of tendon or ligament.SOLUTION: The invention provides compositions and methods for treating injury of tendon or ligament and/or for repairing damaged tendon and ligament. The invention provides compositions comprising a biocompatible matrix and a platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF). In one embodiment of the invention, the composition comprises a biocompatible matrix and a platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), where the biocompatible matrix has pores with a porosity of about 80%, and the composition releases at least about 50% of the PDGF within about 24 hours.
