Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for managing files using a buffer in a storage space of a video event recorder. The apparatus for managing files using a buffer in a storage space of a video event recorder, suggested in the present invention, comprises: a processing unit configured to process input data; a non-volatile memory including a first area where metadata of the data is stored and a second area where the data is stored; a volatile memory buffer configured to buffer the metadata of the data; and an event sensor configured to sense whether a predetermined event occurs, wherein in response to an occurrence of the predetermined event, the metadata of the data buffered in the volatile memory buffer may be written in the first area.
