The present invention relates to a composition for treating, preventing, ameliorating obesity, containing an extract of Arctii fructus as an active ingredient and, more specifically, to a composition for treating, preventing, ameliorating obesity, containing an extract of Arctii fructus as an active ingredient, which inhibits production of white adipocytes and promotes production of brown adipocytes. According to the present invention, the composition is to treat, prevent, or ameliorate obesity, and has effects of inhibiting differentiation into the white adipocytes, inhibiting expression of a CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein (C/EBP) and a peroxisome proliferator activator receptor-gamma (PPARγ), which are a differentiation factors of the white adipocytes, and stimulating expression of an uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) and a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PGC1α) which are factors expressed during differentiation of brown adipocytes. |
